After more than a decade running EQ Woman, an award-winning independent boutique in the heart of Clitheroe, Zilpah Hartley decided it was time to create something of her own.

Having once worked as a TV presenter and journalist, Zilpah swapped that world for one that fitted more naturally around her family, raising three children while building a business rooted in community and real connection. Over the years, she’s helped thousands of women find clothes that make them feel good and she’s learned that sometimes, simplicity is the ultimate luxury.

Where Bou Began

Bou was born from one simple idea: everyday dressing should feel effortless.

Not loud. Not trend-driven. Just beautifully made pieces you want to wear again and again.

It started with a single design, a hoodie that didn’t shout but was elevated everyday wear. Clean, subtle, the kind of piece people notice for the right reasons and ask, “Where did you get that?”

That became the foundation for Bou: understated, easy-to-wear pieces that elevate the everyday.

Zilpah works closely with her factory and head of production, refining every detail through multiple samples until each design feels exactly right.
